Free School Meals

Free School Meals

You may be eligible to claim free school meals for your child. If you apply and receive free school meals, the school will also receive a Pupil Premium each year to spend on raising the attainment of your child.

Please note that even though all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will automatically be entitled to free school meals, we would strongly advise you to still apply for free school meals if you think you qualify under the criteria. If you are eligible the school will receive funding of between £935 and £1,455 to support your child’s learning.

You can apply if you are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

You can apply by calling the Havering Free School Meals Officer on 01708 433929 or completing the online application form on the Havering website https://my.havering.gov.uk/Pages/OnlineForms/Free-school-meals.aspx#Details

Manual forms for completion are also available if you visit the Public Advice and Service Centre in person or contact Free School Meals c/o Town Hall, Main Road, Romford. RM1 3BD freeschoolmeals@havering.gov.uk

You can have your eligibility checked immediately by telephone if you agree to the usage of the Eligibility Checking Service - a Government based service which will advise Havering if you are eligible or not. Your agreement to the use of this system means that with specific information your eligibility can be checked, but that the local authority or the school will not be given full details of the benefits you currently receive. There will also be no need to apply annually to renew the service as the local authority will be able to periodically recheck your eligibility.

If you need any help in applying, please contact Sue Hillier at the school on 01708 225888. We would be happy to assist you in this process.

If your child receives free school meals, you should still register on the sQuid online system (previous page) as this will allow you to see the meals that your child is choosing each day.
